Viscose is a new journal for fashion criticism. Launched between Copenhagen and New York in 2021, the periodical publishes critical writing and projects by a wide range of authors from the worlds of art, fashion, literature, and academia. Through specially edited thematic issues, Viscose gives space to projects that challenge and expand the possibilities of research, practice, and critique of fashion.

This issue examines scent through a variety of lenses, observing its historical and contemporary role in fashion culture. The issue seeks out scent histories—developed with or by artists and designers—who have embraced and involved smell as a medium of possibility and knowledge production, gesturing to histories of manufacturing, trade, branding, and commerce, but also sexuality, desire, identity, and memory

Published in partnership with the International Library of Fashion Research and The Korean Pavilion at the 60th Venice Art Biennale, and the presentation “Odorama Cities” by Koo Jeong A. With support from Nasjonalmuseet, the Danish Arts Foundation, ArtHub, Arts Council Korea, and LUSH.
